The result was a light-handed collection in pretty colors, including champagne and dove gray among brighter emerald or grass green. As one of the few designers to show evening gowns on the runway, Mr. Posen’s fabrics and the craftsmanship were couture class.

With a yellow cab outside the door and the models walking from sidewalk to show space, Ms. Karan hit just the right note for her DKNY collection. Floppy hats added a touch of eccentricity to simple clothes, which started with black urban tailoring but progressed through bright red and blue poppy prints to the same colors in stripes.
