The success of Jane Norman clothing is something of an enigma in that the company claims to not even have a Public Relations or Marketing department. The name was created by Norman Freed in the 1950's when he combined his Christian name with that of his mother's to launch his first fashion boutique.

The brand is continuing to expand with new stores opening in Europe, Russia and the Middle East. Jane Norman is definitely one shop I feel so insecure about entering. The staff seem so perfect - hair, nails and make up! The poor boy!

Managing director Saj Shah, who has been with the chain for 20 years, is heading the buyout team, backed by private equity group Graphite Capital.

David McCorquodale, head of consumer finance at KPMG Corporate Finance, acting for Jane Norman, said retail was one of the sectors attracting interest, despite the stock market downturn.
