I have come to realize that almost all mass produced items come primarily from China, and that included wedding gowns, I've been to David's Bridal already and fell in love with a gorgeous dress, the price is okay, but I started to think what am I going to do with the dress once I'm finished with it, I do have two daughters that I could pass it down to, and friends too, but it's such a large expense and let's not talk about the alterations gee whiz...!
I actually saw the dress I wanted in the store but it was $1100. Found it on eBay for $550. It arrived within 2 weeks. My biggest piece of advice is to check the feedback and the measurements. Some sellers will make according to your measurements.
Just be careful. Do your homework; there have been many women who have gotten great deals on eBay, and many women who've ordered a gown only to find out they bought a cheap, badly done representation of what they thought they were buying. I'd find out if you know someone who knows eBay like the back of their hand, and ask them to help you with research on the seller's feedback.
BUT, I would not buy anything during the strike! I would also check other sites before checking eBay now that the new policies have come out. In case you haven't heard new policies are going into effect today which you might want to check out before using eBay. Thousands of buyers and sellers are boycotting and searching out alternative sites. Egad up on tips. A good number of women here have done that and had an amazing dress for a fraction the normal price. But you must get your measurements right. However I heard of a few who got it slightly wrong and adjusted when it arrived.
I'm getting mine off of eBay too, $100 cheaper than on a used wedding dress site, and it's brand new. I'll use the extra hundred to buy my veil. I've already bought a vintage tiara off of eBay, one I've never seen before or since, and the price was great. I'm putting together my attendant's gifts and my whole trousseau from eBay too. The great thing is the PayPal Buyer Protection, and monitoring. I recommend you stick to North America, though. I'm leery of paying money outside the continent, where shipping would take so much longer. Also, check out the seller's profile.
